Restoration and conservation are in full swing at the Westwork Corvey World Heritage Site. In the near future, visitors will be able to explore this fascinating place through an innovative virtual reality application. A many-layered scenario will offer an immersive on-site experience of the westwork’s historic spaces and stories in the Early Middle Ages.

The working title of the multi-media installations currently under planning is “Guarded by Angels – In the Celestial City”. Their aim is to convey the history of the Carolingian westwork, its construction and decoration, and the former Abbey Church of SS Stephen and Vitus in an immersive experience and give an impression of the monastery’s medieval history. This will make it possible to virtually reconstruct and visualise the Carolingian architecture of the sacred space in its original shapes and colours.
